You disk is only formatted once during a Windows 7 installation. Formatting does not harm the disk, however you remove data stored on the disk through the formatting process. Here is description of the process: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Disk_formatting

Who said formatting does not harm the disk . Formatting a disk again and again does reduce its age.
