If you are shutting down your laptop by pressing the power button, it is probably set up to Hibernate instead of normal Shutdown.
So use your mouse to shut down via the Windows "Start" button instead.
To change the behaviour of the power button, go to Control Panel > Power Options
On the left, click "Choose what the power button does"

I'm working on a different computer. The Acer has a totally blank screen. The mouse is not on. The only lights on are the red and blue one in front and the blue under the power button. So, I can't try anything until I get the screen and mouse back.

Disconnect the power from the Acer and remove the battery.
