I have an old Dell dimension 8250 computer running Ubuntu. I was considering getting new inside components and running Windows 7 (basically switching out everything) Any tips or suggestions? Trying to make it a gaming centered computer

The orginal question of "Will it fit?"

Yes it will (I work with dells on a daily basis even these older P4 models.

Now 1) Those cases SUCK! They are a pain to open and close. 2) Yes they do have some bad air flow in them and the design is just ugly and bad. 3) The USB ports on the front you wont be able to use. They connect to the motherboard differently.

Get another Case. Anything will be better than this. That case just breaks and is ugly and is just Yuck.

Probably WON'T work. The original motherboard is a proprietary design, so a standard ATX or even micro-ATX will not simply mount to the motherboard tray.
Google your old PC (Dell Dimension 8250) and take a look at the pictures and you will see what I am talking about.

If you are doing a complete rebuild, save yourself a lot of headaches and frustration and just buy a new case: it will have better airflow then the old Dell and be easier to work with and within.
