Hello,
I just built my PC about three weeks ago. Yesterday I decided to begin prepping to OC by checking stock temps in a stress program and updating bios. The temps in the stress program went through the roof! I'm aware the tests throw everything at the processor it can. My system is as follows
Corsair 500R
Maximus VI Hero
Hyper 212 EVO
Thermal paste included with 212 EVO (bought GeLid GC-Extreme will be here Friday).
Ambient temps are between 19-21C(I live in Michigan).
My temps averaged 77C on a non overclocked 4670K on IBT Very High.

Any suggestions to decrease stock temps so I can overclock higher are appreciated!

Solution
My 4670K hit 94*C. within 10 sec. on IBT with stock cooler and default settings. 77*C. sounds pretty reasonable to me for IBT on Very High. Haswells are just very hot chips!

That is pretty high for stock settings. Have you tried reseating the CPU cooler? It may have a small amount of airspace causing the heat transfer to be slow. Make sure you use a small amount of thermal paste also. Too much paste can slow down the heat transfer also. (The faster the heat gets to the fins on the cooler, the better.)

Can you try undervolting the CPU? It also might be pushing too much voltage through if it is on automatic.

Today i reseated the cooler making sure to tighten it a bit more than previously and I also used about 1/3-1/2 the Thermal paste previously used. Temps seem to be about the same at idle but I have yet to stress test. Undervolting I could do but I'm not sure what to set it to

Ok Yogi! Thank's for some reassurance. On the overclocking standpoint, what guide would you reccomended I try? I've read Intel God's and some others on overclock.com/.net. None were used with my MB but still. Being a first time OCer I want to be as safe as possible.

You're welcome!

I found Intel God's guide to be the most helpful. Pretty straightforward and easy to understand. I had no problems getting to 4.4.

Let me know if you have any questions.
