am looking to buy a desktop for the family, nothing too hardcore, we use the computer for internet browsing, some you tube video, i-tune and download our photos. am looking at the AMD A6-6400k, the AMD A8-5500 or the AMD fx-4100, can't decide which is best suit for my application.

Solution
The fx-4100 is the fastest but doesn't have an integrated gpu. However, if your planning on getting a gpu for the system then I would recommend getting the fx-4100 (if no gpu then the AMD A8-5500 is the best option).

If you get a A10-5800K you could still play some games with decent graphics.. if you're definitely not interested in any kind of games or video editing then go for the A8 5500, you'll have no problem with speed and will last for a long long time :)

No game played on the computer, the only video editing maybe done will be my gopro download.

The A8 would be sufficient for general use. I would want more for any kind of video editing though. I would probably recommend at least an FX 6300 with a Asus M5A78L-M/USB3 or GA-78LMT-USB3. Those motherboards have IGP and would suit your needs. It really isn't much more in cost and a far better CPU than any of the others listed. FX 6300 is probably one of the best price/performance chips you can get right now.

Am thinking of an A8-5500 with an GA-F2A85X-UP4 motherboard and 4Gb of ram or the fx-4100 with a GA-78LMT-S2P Motherboard with 4Gb of ram and get a readon gpu later. Am currently have a pentium 4 (775 socket) on a msi ms7110 motherboard with 2Gb of ram, and I find it very slow when browsing.
