ok so im going to buy a new gaming pc and i want to get the best card for price out there, so my question is, now that the 780 is actually cheaper then the 290X wich one should i get?
im prob going to wait for the 780 TI and the new versions for the 290X before i buy but i want to get a general idea of wich one i should get.
btw if im taking the 780 im taking the windforce 3x 3GB for about 100$ less then the R9 290X unless they do a sale on him to.

Honestly I was dead set on getting the R9-290X, but when Nvidia dropped the bomb that they were dropping the 780s it completely changed my mind. If you look at my specs you can tell I'm AMD all the way, but the price drop on the 780 (which when OC'd will crush the R9-290X) is too great to ignore.

well im going to play 1920X1080 for now untill i get a 1440P screen
im not going to play 4K but i do want to be able to play on Ultra on FHD for the next two years

and i was also set for the 290X untill the price drop
if the OCed 780 still beates the Gigabite/Asus/Whatever COed 290X
then im defenetly getting the 780
it also depends if they fix all the 290X issues.
i mean, it's Extremely loud, and it's soooo hot
once it reaches up to 95 degress it's starting to loose clock speed
on the other hand thouse problems might be fixed with the newer versions and maybe then well be able to OC it properly.
and it got 1 more VRam then the 780 althou when playing FHD i dont think ill need more then 3GB, atleast for now
what do you think?

Well 290x non-reference design isnt here yet so any of us doesnt really know if it beats it or no. And for 1080p gaming 770 or 280x will be enough(Crysis 3 can be an exception).

Yeah 290x down clocks once it reaches 95c. Non reference cooler will hopefully rectify it. And imo 2gb VRAM is more than enough for 1080p

Anyways back on the 780 vs 290x. For 1080p 780 performs better(in benchmarks) & for 1440p 290x will be better. As 290x starts to shine in higher resolutions. Hope it helps.

And one more thing if you can wait. 290 will be coming out on 31st it'll be 449. Just saying

The 290X was only impressive for its price. Now that the GTX 780 is cheaper AND comes with 3 free games, there's very little comparison in terms of price-performance.

The stock GTX 780 that we've all seen in the reviews runs much cooler, much quieter, and nearly as fast as the 290X. It also doesn't throttle its clock speeds below its standard load settings the way the 290X does. Now, if you get one of the many factory overclocked GTX 780s that run faster than a Titan out of the box, then that minimal advantage for the 290X is entirely nullified. Add in the added value of the unique technologies offered by the GTX 780 (Shadowplay, G-Sync, Adaptive VSync, PhysX, TXAA, FXAA, etc.) then it makes a very hard sell for a 290X with a noisy reference cooler and very little thermal headroom.

"This puts the two cards on equal footing on the price/performance continuum with NVIDIA’s kicker – their superior build quality and cooling performance – remaining."

not 100% sure on this, but the 290x is gonna run major hot. it might not get alot of overclock performance if any as where iv looked up some newer (not yesterday ne) nvidia 780 superclocked that has some pretty impressve performace. zotac, and evga makes a good one that im possably considering depending on the price of the radeon 290 (non x) cause i really shouldnt spend 535 (its a few bucks more then others but i think one of the big etailors had it sale around 535ish no tax)

just pay atention to the core clock speed if your not a great overclocker plus im not certian but these also may be the rumored ones that are a second revision cause there clock 1006 base clock and and 1059 boost.
and to you can prolly OC these even further cause if there a revision then they run cooler from what i read.

i googled nvidia 780 1006 base clock

this may be a rumor kinda new to gaming sites for graphics cards so however seems legit

i agree but i just saw this benchmark for battlefield 4 that really confused me.
im to lazy to upload it so im just gonna give you the gist :p
it's on HIGH settings (not ultra) 1920x1200:
R9 290X - 97 Fps.
Titan - 81 Fps.
*this is a really confusing one* 280x - 75 Fps.
gtx 780 - 73 fps.

now it's really weird becouse the 780 is supposed to be alot stronger then the 280x isnt it?
and the 290x is better then the 780 by about 30% by the looks of it.
and then i saw another bench where the gtx 780 got 79 fps
and the 290x got 92 again
im soo confused right now becouse i thought the 290x is stronger by 6% and an over clocked gtx 780 can easly outperforme it.
btw if im taking the 780 ill be taking the Gigabite windforce 3X oc

Well once the non reference cooler comes, a 780 won't be able to out perform it as 290x downclocks itself to reduce heat/ So once that is taken care of the GPU can perform at its max

so your saying i should take the 290x?
even thou nvidia gives us all kind of stuff like txaa and physx all the stuff from above ^^

im not sure how much impact they have on gaming but they sound kinda nice

Not every game supoorts it. Just like not every game will support mantle or tressfx. Both of em has different technologies and supports em through their cards. Imo 290x performs better than 780. Its your call what all games you want to play which of em has physx, Some people say its gimmick. I wont say that but its not there in BF4

Pretty much this. IF you can afford one of those early watercoolers (pretty expensive though) get a 290x with one and it will beat anything. However even with a nomarl aftermarket cooler once they come out will solve all of the problems from the 290x.

Also keep in mind AMD has stated numeros times that the card is made to run at 95 degrees. so unless your case is pressured for cooling having one at that temperature wont be bad.

I have to say with the new price of the 780 is very attractive and i would have bought it if the 290x didn't exist. 50$ more for a big performance boost.
