Hi Guys

I have decided to move from AMD to Intel. I wish to upgrade my PC, listed below are my specs:

CiT Case
Cooler Master Heatsink
AMD FX-4170 OC 4.7ghz
Sapphire HD7770 GHz Edition
Cheap 750W PSU
8GB of DDR3 1333mhz RAM
Asus M5A97 Motherboard

I am upgrading CPU, therefore I have to change my Mobo. As I am new to Intel, I am unsure of what mobo or CPU to choose. I am saving up, but as I am only 15, I cant afford thousands. I am also getting a GTX780, a new case, and PSU. So my question is, what else do I need to upgrade, and what CPU and Mobo?

Thanks in advance guys

Well you didn't leave anything out except the ram and storage drives. You can use 1333 memory, but the Haswell boards support 1866 out of the box, and OC ram speeds as high as 3200.

i5-4670k will run you about $250, decent z87 motherboard, (ASRock Extreme 3 as a minimum), about $120. If you have something like a cooler master hyper evo 212 you can probably re-use that if you kept all the brackets.

I would go ahead and buy the new ram, that way you still have a complete board, chip, and ram to build into another PC, or sell.

I left out a few things :D I have a 1tb Seagate Barracuda, 7200rpm. And that is the Cooler master I have, however the bearings have gone :( I like the idea of getting a new set of RAM, to sell my mobo complete.

Reckon? I might do that, get a 760 over a 780, and I am definitely getting a corsair PSU. I am going to look into the 4670K

Sounds like a pretty big compromise in performance, the 780 is probably overkill for a single display 1080p but if he has the money to drop on a 780 I would look at maybe the 770 if you want to stick with nvidia or the 7970/280x with AMD. Both of those cards are great performance for the money and leaves some room for future titles that might be more resource intensive, the 760 won't hold up for as long.

GPU - If you're going to game at 1080p don't get GTX 780, get 770 or 280x as they are more than enough.

CPU - Get 4670k for gaming. If you want do more like creative such as rendering then get 4770k. If you got 212 Evo and has its intel brackets then it should be fine for moderate overclocking

CPU - MSI GD65, Asus z87 pro, Gigabyte UD4h etc etc(honestly depends upon your budget). All of the mobos are really good imo

RAM - Get 2x4gb 1600 Mhz G.Skill RipjawsX with good timing ig 9-9-9-24

PSU - Get 600W preferably corsair(personal opinion)

Asrock extreme3 is absolutely a great choice. There is the extreme4 and extreme6 too with better cooling if you plan to SLI and OC.

However this one up there is your thing :)

I am only using one screen, I may in the future upgrade to 1440p, but at the moment I am only running 1080p
I would prefer to go with Nvidia, so I shall look into the 770.

I love the look of that.. Is that a built in sound card as well? I really like that

It's a compromise to save bucks and help him get the other components.
Although +1 for "780 is an overkill"..
But 760 will hold up for a long time.

That RAM over some Corsair? And 2 4gb sticks over 1 stick of 8gb?

Yes it does. And capable of 3-way SLI. It's a beast within.

I might get that, I really like that... :D Thank god Christmas is only around the corner!

If you already have 8GB of DDR3 RAM why are you replacing it? You will see a small improvement from 1333 to say 1866 and above but it's going to be small and if your trying to save money it's not really worth it. You can always upgrade it later if you feel it's necessary, pump that money into some of the more essential components.

Well Corsair or G.Skill both are neck and neck in performance. I recommended RipjawsX as it doesnt interfere with the CPU heatsink.

And i'm suggesting 2x4gb cause its dual channel. Will increase the performance compared to single channel
