Haven't rebuilt since 2007. Now it's time and I need help.

It's been so long since I built a computer, I'm embarrassed to say I only vaguely remember how to go about doing it. Of course it doesn't help that I'm 62 years old. Anyway, my old PC has served me well for a long time, but I want to upgrade. Believe it or not, even at 62 I'm still a gamer and need a moderately powerful gaming system. I've been gaming since the 1980's on my old Apple II. Here's what I have now:

Case: CoolerMaster Stacker 830 EVO (I want to keep this)
Mobo: Gigabyte P35-DS3L
PS: Corsair HX650 (I'd like to keep this if possible)
CPU: E4500 Duo Core 2.2 GHz
GPU: GeForce 8800GT 512MB (Don't laugh. This was a high end card at the time!)
RAM: DDR800 4GB

Would you guys please suggest some builds for me. I'm not looking to OC the new system, so I want something that will be good from the get-go and dependable. I hate to sound lazy, but I'm really not into doing this kind of stuff anymore and don't want to do a ton of research like I did years ago.

Thanks.

going buy your previous specs im guessing you have a similar budget as back then. ie £700 for that you could upgrade to an i5 3570k, hd 7970/r9 280x or gtx 770 with 8 gigs of ram... and you should be well within £700

it would all fit in your current case and should work off the psu fine...

as for laughing... only an idiot would mate the 88gt was top draw in 2007/8 you picked your parts reasonably well back then...(although the e4500 wouldnt have been my choice)

I'd like to stay around $700 - $800 if possible. I'm not looking to play 3D games, but I'd like to play games like BioShock Infinite, Skyrim and Dishonored at max or close to it. My monitor is a 25" ASUS at 1920 X 1080. I'm running Windows 7 Home 32 bit. Hopefully, I can get by just replacing the mobo, RAM, CPU and GPU. Perhaps an upgrade to Windows is necessary too?

I'm not really brand loyal, so switching to AMD would be fine if it makes sense to go that way. I'd be changing the motherboard any, so it wouldn't be a big deal. But AMD or Intel, I would really like some specific suggestions on a specific parts that work together well from you guys. That's where the experience comes in and nowadays my experience if far behind the curve.

buying a K part doesnt mean you want to oc but at least you have the option to do so in the future... better to have and not need than need and not have in my book. but hey its just an opinion. im not forcing any 1 to take my advice... like i said. " I would go for a better cpu" i didnt say he should.

Thanks guys. The system I have now is overclocked, but I just use EasyTune to handle it. When I tried doing it manually I had to many reliability problems. And, now that I"m getting older, I just don't feel like fooling with it as much as I used to. As Hexit said, I could do without the HD and optical drive and use the money for a step up in CPU, but heck the drives are so cheap now it wouldn't be too much savings. I don't see a price for memory in Yusuf's build, so that would be an additional $76.99 for a total of $800.92, unless I cut the drives, bringing it down to $717.48. Nice price range. You guys are great!

So, you all pretty much agree this would be a decent gaming system for a few years?
