Adding more SATA ports, best Way?

Hello all,

Currently I have an ASUS Crosshair V Formula motherboard. I have filled up all the SATA ports on the board and was wondering about the best way to add more I will need a maximum of around 8 more ports (have a COSMOS II case) until I go external enclosure.

I was wondering what is the most cheapest solution to achieve this. I do not need RAID, but would like to keep SATA III speeds if possible.

One method I have found was this SAS card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816101792

And from there use two SATA breakout cables giving 8 ports.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

popatim, thanks for the response.
I'm looking at the M1015. Is this what you are referring to: http://www.amazon.com/IBM-Serveraid-M1015-Controller-46M0831/dp/B0034DMSO6

If so, the specs say that it can support up to 32 devices. Although I know I will never use that many drives internally (in this case). How would this work?

Also, where do you recommend I find a used one, and anywhere you can point me to for flashing instructions?

Thanks in advance!
