i bought a quad channel ram set a few months ago and only 8 out of 16gb was detected, could it be possible that my bios is causing this problem? I have bios version 1.6/20120411. I also didn't see any burn marks at the ram slots.

Wow that`s bad :(
Did you trobleshoot th problem or you just guessing ?
- take all 4 DDR out
- put one (Slot 1 )
- power on Yes/No
- if Yes move it to slot 2 , 3 and 4
- if you have POST - OK on all 4 slots then you have BAD DDR or 2 BAD DDR
- repeat all above for all 4 stick`s DDR

And YES i have seen DEATH DDR Channels .... so maybe you`r right but i`ll go for the DDR fault check !

I`ll go for BIOS upgrade in case of first boot up NEW system issues !
If you have this PC for few month running well and suddenly you have some problem then the BIOS is my last suspect in this scenario !
But it wont harm - in case of Mobo is 100% functional .....
Is it ...... hmmm :)
I`ll would`t do BIOS upgrade in this case - unless you have Warranty Coverage on the Mobo !
