Hello all,

Recently started my new build and everything was going swimmingly until I tried to plug the 20+4 Pin connector into the motherboard. I know they sometimes need a lot of push to go in but this connector simply doesn't want to go. I push as hard as possible (Motherboard shows signs of bending) and there still seems to be some gap between the connector and the socket. The little latch is also not clipping on, it comes about a millimetre short of clipping over. I have checked the connector and the socket, everything seems fine, there is no bent pins or blockages as far as I can tell.

Should I just keep pushing harder or is there a technique I should use? Or is something simply faulty?

MOBO - MSi z87 G43
PSU - Corsair CX750M

Thanks in advance everyone,
Tom

Have you tied reversing the 20+4 cable? I had the same issue with my Gigabyte 990FXA UD3

No way to reverse it, the 4 pin can only clip in one side as it has these two little prongs that connect it onto the 20 pin part. So I think it's the correct way around but Just refuses to push down. Unless you meant reversing something else with the cable?

Are you sure it is for the 20+4? Is it attached to the main cable?
Does it have any markings on it?
If it is indeed for the 20+4 have you tried putting it in without the 20 part first?
Have you tried plugging it in on the other end? (as in the top or the bottom)

Yeh I am sure it's for the 20+4, it's attached to the main cable. Originally I thought it was a solid 24 pin but noticed the 4 was detachable if needed. So there is only one way it can fit together and plug in, it just doesn't want to

Have you tried plugging only the 4 pin in? forget the 20 pin for now.

Yeh, the 4 pin seems to go in fine on it's own. But the 20 pin still won't latch and push all the way in even on it's own.

Well, that is probably the sign of a defective product. If you have a local computer store where they can look at this in person I think that would be best.
Without actually being there it is hard to think of anything else that could have gone wrong.
When going to the store remember to bring both the 20+4 cable and the Motherboard.
