Recently I have decided upon upgrading either my GPU or CPU. Currently I own an Inno3D GTX 550ti 2GB along with the AMD Phenom II 965 @3.4Ghz. I run all my games at 1920x1080 resolution and I am pondering which component I should upgrade. I have had my gaming setup for a good 2 years and over time I have changed a few thing but I haven't considered my GPU or CPU. The prices I am looking at are around £120-£150. Which is best to upgrade?

Regards Leon.

Almost always, GPU is the way to go. Most games don't require a whole lot of cpu power, but rely heavily on the gpu. Exceptions to this are mmo's, quantity games. FPS's and the like are quality games. The nvidia gtx 760 is the best way to go for your price range. It will run all games on high and ultra. Even BF4 :)

Mate the 760 is outside of that price range, bear in mind the only game you won't be running on ultra atm is Crysis 3, that game makes alot of cards choke. I wouldn't really recommend any higher cards than these for your Phenom. There is no real upgrade path with that CPU socket so down the line you'd have to get a new CPU and Mobo

The cheapest 760 I could find was £180 so might as well look at these alternatives

This 7870 XT (performs close to a 7950)

or this 7950 (a little overbudget)

I guess it's a little cheaper over here. Didn't think about that. The gtx 660 is just a little lower performance wise and $200 over here (£120ish). Are parts more where you are? Here 760s range from about $250-300. But yes, a lot of high-end graphics cards are unnecessarily powerful. Although the best bang for your buck would probably be quad Titans.
