I just got a Gigabyte R9 280X from Newegg and it doesn't seem to be working right. It's fine right now and it played BF3 on ultra pretty well but within 10 minutes of starting Far Cry 3, Skyrim ,and Metro 2033 my PC freezes. There was some artifacts when Metro 2033 and Far Cry 3 froze. The temps have stayed between 52-63c and I've tried the drivers that came with it and the newest on AMD's website. Unless someone can come up with a fix it'll be on it's way back to Newegg before the end of the week. Thanks.

Bump/Update. The Far Cry 3 map maker works but the campaign is unplayable even at the lowest settings. I noticed that the BIOS switch on the card was in the 2 position but changing it to 1 doesn't appear to have helped things much.

I received my GIGABYTE 280X this evening, DOA. I just got off the phone with Amazon.com and will be shipping back to them tomorrow... I think i'm done with GIGABYTE, I still want a 280x just need to decide which one to get now.

A single DOA card does not indicate a trend. Gigabyte is a great brand.

You're right Rev.. i'm just frustrated at the moment and after visiting Newegg.com where there are a few people complaining as well about DOA 280x from GIGABYTE that just added to my frustration. I still might exchange for another one and hope for better luck.

Do you have an opinion of or experience with XFX?

I tried a few more things including downclocking it but I didn't have any luck. It's going back to Newegg in the mourning so hopefully I'll have a new one within 2 weeks. That was the second broken GPU that I've got in less that 3 months and it was several days late. :(

I just got the replacement from Newegg and I'm having the same problem again. Great frame rate for the first 2-5 minutes and then it drops to 10-15 fps even on low settings. I've tried Far Cry 3 and Metro Last Light so far. What are the odds that they sent me another dud? :(

cpu overheating? faulty psu? or psu not powerful enough. Tried the latest whql drivers?

My FX-6300 usually doesn't get over 60c and I'm using 13.11 beta 7 drivers. I have a 1000 watt psu and it works fine with my HD 7770.

I'm not sure what to do here and I could use some help. Should I just send the GPU back and get another one? I don't have another computer that I could try that card in and none of my friends or family members do either.

To be honest between the 280's and 290's people have been having TONS of issues. Have you tried playing with the fan control software? Maybe the fan just isn't spinning up to its fullest rpm. Im not a amd guy so I couldn't be to much help. I just know what I have read because I was thinking of going back to a radeon card and the 290x was looking good. But I think imma stay with nvidia and evga. Check overclockers.net and see if anyone has found a fix.
