You need playback software like PowerDVD or Arc soft.

As bignastyid said, the actual DVD drive will get the drivers to run from the OS. However, you will need a software program (eg Nero or Cyberlink) to watch or burn DVDs. Did none come with the drive?

There are a lot of choices, and everybody has their own preference. I like Nero, but Arcsoft gets good reviews. Just make sure you do not buy an older version that will not work with your OS, as they do tend to update them. You can also buy slimmed down versions that play blu-ray DVDs and burn blu-ray, but leave out other 'bells and whistle' stuff that most people do not need.
