In moving some old photos from a working win2k hdd to a windows Vista PC (newer and more capacity) The problem, is that about half the files come up with a message that I'll need to provide administrator permission to move the file. I've gone into properties/ security tab and changed the permissions to "everyone" but still have this issue.
Thank you for giving some thought to this issue. BTW to make this transfer, I have temporarily installed the win2k drive into the vista machine on a IDE ribbon cable.

Solution
You may only have changed the properties on the main folder, go into the advanced rights options, and make sure that you have it checked to apply the rights to subfolders.

Thank you Hang the 9, I thought that I had checked that box, but not sure. I have gone back into the folder and used the advanced tab and checkbox to apply the rights to subfolders. I still am having some locked files. Some of them won't move or delete. the message that I am getting is that the file is in use by another program. Any ideas please?

That is a different issue than needing admin rights. If you can copy the files instead of moving them, do that. Then you can just format the drive if you want to wipe it.

Odd that it states the files are in use unless you are using some other program that reads the drive while you are trying to copy the files out.
