I'm going to be upgrading my CPU soon, I currently have an intel i5 750 cpu. I'm looking for a decent price CPU/Mobo that will last 3-5 years. I'd prefer to stay with intel, and I've heard that the i5 cpu's are better for gaming than the the i7's, not sure how true this is.

If the above is true, then I was looking at this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819116899

Unless there's one for similar performance and better price. Would the above last me a 3-5 years?

The i5 4670K haswell processor will last your 3 to 5 years (your lynnfield did :) ) , and will be excellent for gaming, especially with an over clock. I would recommend a hyper 212 evo if you choose to do so. Most mother boards with the z87 chipset would be great and last the 3 to 5 years as well

For the more budget conscious these two boards would be servicable:

http://pcpartpicker.com/part/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz87hd3

however if you can spend the extra 30 dollars this board is fantastic:
