Kaveri Speculation- Dual Graphics

Solution
no, kavari will be DDR3 and steamroller. GDDR5 would really help with graphics bandwidth but it makes for poor system ram. It will be PCIE 3.0 (finally)

GDDR5 system ram wouldn't help dual graphics at all. The main issue with dual graphics is micro-stuttering. It is caused by the frames being displayed at an inconsistent pacing. This has nothing to do with the system ram but has everything to do with drivers. The software controlling the gpus needs to step in and tell the hardware to wait before displaying the frames. Also dual graphics doesn't scale very well from what I can tell.

Okay so essentially Dual Graphics getting better is entirely dependent on new drivers? Which kind of means the whole thing is a fluke as of right now? Thanks for the response by the way.

No problem. As far as scaling goes, that might be both hardware and driver dependant. As far as micro-stuttering goes that is entirely driver related.

Honestly you'd be far better off going with an Athlon x4 kavari processor and spend the savings on getting a better graphics card, rather than going with a dual graphics setup. Unless of course an A-10 kavari duals with a 7770 and they fix scaling and stuttering issues. But I wouldn't count on that and there is no official word on what GPUs can be used next time around.

Yeah I mean I was thinking Kaveri was going to be a lot better than it apparently is so I was thinking maybe even a Kaveri/7870 LE because it would be nice to have a processor that gives a little extra oomph to discrete graphics, but with what you're saying I'm sticking to fx-6300/7950.

I doubt very much that kavari would pair up with a 7870 LE. The core count on the integrated gpu wouldn't be high enough for it to matter. even a 7770 is hoping for a lot unfortunately. There is nothing wrong with the 6300 7950 combo at all.

If you don't mind waiting, it might be a good idea to see what gets released on FM2+ early next year. Honestly I'm not disappointed by the lack of GDDR5 system ram, it is far too high latency to offer any good performance outside of dedicated graphics. And the fact that it is PCIE 3.0 is a huge plus. I'm hoping they merge the FX line onto FM2+. Honestly the FM platform is far more feature rich than the AM platform, but the performance of its CPUs just isn't there yet.

Still I'm eager to see the kavari/steamroller improvements.

Yup. Crossfire of any kind lives and dies with proper driver support.
