Friend's monitor randomly shuts down but computer is still running

My friend's computer has been having issues recently (starting near the end of September-beginning of October). His monitor randomly turns off while he's playing League of Legends and the light turns yellow. However, the computer remains on because he can still hear the fans and computer running.

We're not sure if the computer freezes/hangs or if the game and other programs still run because the monitor doesn't display anything.

His computer is a HP Pavilion p6787c (he probably bought it from Costco or something).

He asked his other friend for help and was told that it was probably a video card problem. This HP desktop PC has a built-in dedicated video card, not an integrated card. We decided to upgrade his video card and also buy a new power supply for it.

We bought a Sapphire Radeon 6670 and a Corsair 430W power supply.

We went for the cheaper products because all he plays is LoL and Minecraft. He does not play any crazy 3D video games like BF3 or Crysis. We looked at the HP desktop's motherboard and we're pretty sure everything fits. We're also certain that the power supply is good enough for all his hardware (Radeon 6670 requires at least a 400W PSU).

After he installed his new hardware, he booted up his computer and played a game. Everything was working fine so we assumed the problem was solved. However, the next day his monitor shut off AGAIN. It has been going on for a couple more weeks now. However, it appears less frequently.

We're now stuck in a strange position in which we don't know what is causing the problem.

- His old computer worked fine until this September. He's had the computer for about 3-4 years now. So we don't think it was the old video card causing the problem because it ran fine before. We also don't think it was the old PSU for the same reason.
- His monitor is most likely not the cause of the problem (it's fairly new).
- His newly-purchased hardware is probably not the cause of the problem either. Everything has been plugged in correctly and works fine when it's working. Graphics have been improved and the computer runs fine, until the monitor decides to shut down.

My hunch and gut is telling me that the motherboard might be causing the problem, but I can't know for sure. I'm not a professional and I can't tell my friend to try anything because I'm not sure whether or not it will work (I might end up harming his computer). I have a good general knowledge of computer hardware, but again, I'm also not really in the position to be telling people exactly what they should be doing to fix their computers.

We need your help! I can ask him more questions if need be.

Hey, so I'm the one with the problem. This is not the issue, but thanks for making and effort. This is not just a game problem. This would happen with just casual use. A couple minutes, or even an hour into using the computer, the monitor would go to sleep. The power is still on and the fans are spinning. Hey, so I'm the one with the problem. This is not the issue, but thanks for making and effort. This is not just a game problem. This would happen with just casual use. A couple minutes, or even an hour into using the computer, the monitor would go to sleep. The power is still on and the fans are spinning. However, I can not turn on caps locks or num locks (it's off). I have already tried replacing the PSU and video cards and it did help for a couple of days. But this problem resurfaced again, and now its more common. I would have to hold the power button to turn off and turn on again (cringe, killing mah comp!!) and sometimes it would boot up normally and sometimes the monitor just doesn't even turn on. However, even after doing this, the monitor still sometimes goes back to sleep. I have already checked all of the cables and monitor, and these two are not the problem. The psu and video card is not a problem either, because both are brand new and are compatible. The next thing I would suspect is the mobo, but there is not visible problems such as leaks and such. Please help if possible anyone!!!
P.S. I have restated things that my friend has already said, but your solution is not applicable to this situation because this happened even BEFORE I got my new video card.

Hi there,
The problem you mentioned is same as of mine. I have a Digilite G41 motherboard and its giving the same issues. I had even sent my Mobo for warranty but even after repair it was still the same. I dont think the problem is with the Bios. I have tried everything but no luck. If you find an answer tell me. Good luck.
