Due to the recent NVIDIA price cuts, the 780 only costs $500, and I wanted to know if a single GTX 780 would be overkill for a single monitor at 1080p. I am going to be playing games like BF4 on ultra, as well as other demanding games, and I want it to last me a few years. I realize that the 290x and 290 are good cards, but I like NVIDIA's temperatures and drivers.

yeah it totally is, but hell if you want something to be solid for max on most games for a couple years, start strong it will save you money in the long run, plus: it's rad to have the latest greatest! also check out the 290x it meets or beats the 780 in most games plus has onboard hardware audio and supports the upcoming amd mantle which is looking pretty cool. unless you can't live without gpu based physx......

As the first poster caj stated if you want to max everything at 1920 x 1080 you need a 780 minimum. Crysis 3 is a good example. A GTX 770/HD 7970/R9 280 can't max it. Also as said above get a factory overclocked model and the 780 will usually beat a Titan.
