Hi, I'm banging my head between these the 3rd generation i3 3227 gigabyte brix XM 3227 (http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-3227U+%40+1.90GHz&id=1861) vs. BRIX BXi3-4010 with Haswell 1.7ghz.(http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-4010U+%40+1.70GHz&id=2012) I'm leaning forward the haswell because it includes audio jack out wifi and BT. However, on benchmarks, the i3 third generation is faster than the newer haswell, on the other side, the Haswell has a better graphics Intel 4400 vs. 4000 in the third gen. I can't stand the fact I would buy a newer but slower CPU, even though I don't do gaming. Will this difference be significantly notable on daily use? Thanks in advance.

No, you won't notice the difference if you aren't doing anything demanding or that takes an incredibly long time. If it's just for something like an HTPC box I would get the Haswell since it has the nicer feature set. For general web, movies/medai, e-mail, and all that stuff you'd be really hard pressed to notice any difference between the two.

It depends on what you are doing. The vast majority of my day my laptop runs at less than 50% of it's rated frequency anyway, thanks to it slowing itself down. I never notice.

However, if I was doing a video transcode that was going to take 24 hours, then 10% faster would shave off 2.4 hours . . . that's a pretty big deal.

If you don't do anything demanding then you would barely notice a 1Ghz vs 2Ghz of the same processor. You would probably notice things like having an SSD much more since your stuff would be near-instant to open and that feels like a faster machine anyway.

Good point! However, this two processors have different architectures so I'm not sure if we can directly compare 1.9 Ghz vs 1.7 ghz. I do have a ssd, probably the best bang for the buck. The thing that might favor the newer, but slightly slower baseline clockwork is the graphics intel 4400
Vs 4000

On average Haswell generation CPUs are 6% more powerful than Ivy Bridge CPUs. However, some sets of benchmarks (depending on which review site you go to) shows as much as a 9% increase in average performance.\

Assuming an average of 6% increase in performance, the 1.7GHz Haswell CPU will be equal to a 1.80GHz Ivy Bridge CPU.

Assuming an average of 9% increase in performance, the 1.7GHz Haswell CPU will be equal to a 1.85GHz Ivy Bridge CPU.

You will not be able to tell the difference.
