MSI GTX 770 not working with DVI-I output

I am hoping someone can provide some pointers to getting this one sorted out.

I've just bought an MSI GTX 770 4Gb to upgrade form my old GTX 295 and am having problems getting both my monitors to work using DVI cables. The issue appears to be the the DVI-I port on the GTX is refusing to work properly.

Whilst troubleshooting I have verified the following...

1) Both monitors work properly using the card's DVI-D output and a single link DVI-D cable.
2) Booting the system (Windows 7 64 bit, clean install) with only the DVI-I port attached through the DVI cable results in the windows splash screen displaying but then the system craps out and the screen goes black when the windows login screen appears.
3) Dropping down the screen resolution to something ridiculously low and then rebooting through the DVI-I port as per 2) above makes no difference at all.
4) All hardware and cables work correctly when reinstalling the old GTX 295.
5) Reinstalling drivers makes no difference.

I don't want to have to go out and buy a DVI-I cable just to troubleshoot this when I believe this set up should be working perfectly. Does anyone have any ideas what I may be missing?

Solution
Since you're able to get the splash screen on that port it clearly works, why it goes blank afterward is a bit strange.

Do you have all the latest drivers installed already?

Yup. Latest drivers, latest BIOS on the mboard (Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UDH4), and no firmware updates available for the GTX that I can see.

Just rechecked and there was a new set of drivers released (331.65) in the last 48 hours. Just tried a clean install of those and the problem went away. Both monitors working fine now. How weird.
