hi i hope someone can help me i have bought a sentry lx fan controller for my new pc....everything is working fine in my pc and has been up and running for 2 weeks now...but as soon as i plug the power molex from the fan controller into my computer the wires to the fan controller gets really hot and start to melt?....this is my second fan controller i am trying today cos yesterdays did the same but totally melted...todays i pull out the plug before they melt...psu is a new seasonic 750watt....and yes i have connected it with pc off then booted....are there different voltages coming from a psu?...does the molex need to be pluged into somewhere else....i am at a loss any help would be great

Usually molex connectors carry 12V (yellow) and 5V (red) and 2 grounds (black)

Is your PSU modular? are you sure every wire is plugged in properly?

Is there any splitters between the fan controller and your PSU try to avoid them, plug the controller directly into one of the PSU molex connectors

How many fans did you plug in, try with just one of them to start, a faulty fan might be causing the issue (if there is a short somewhere)

You could also try another molex plug in case it's an issue with your PSU, but seasonic is usually a very good brand so its not very likely

I suggest you only plug case fans to the controller, leave the CPU fan plugged into the motherboard so if something doesn't work right with your controller you wont risk damaging your CPU

Also the controller is rated for 6W per channel so avoid plugging more than one fan per channel.

I'm not familiar with that controller so besides these tips I can't really say much more, but since you have the same issue with 2 units I'm not sure if it's the controller that are defective or something else that isn't right.

Ok this is what power i have coming out of the molex plugs i hope someone can confirm to me that this is correctly wired up...Ok so i got my mulitmeter and tested the voltages out of the molex plug....if i put the + side of the multimeter into the red wire and into the black wire right next to it i get a little over 12 volts....if i then move the negative side of the multimeter to the black wire which is next to the yellow wire i get a little over 7 volts....the same goes for doing it the ther way around...if i put the + side of the mulitmeter into the yellow wire and then the negative side into the black wire next to it i get 12volts...then if i leave the + side of the mulitmeter still in the yellow wire but more along to the black wire next to the red wire i get 7 volts...can someone please confirm to me if this voltage and wiring sound correct as i have a third fan controller coming tomorrow...dont want to melt that one also ;-)

That seems wrong from what you're saying I think your wires are inverted

Yellow + Black should give you 12V
Red + Black should give you 5V
Yellow + Red should give you 7V (this seems ok)

They might have screwed up the color coding only (which would note be too problematic) OR have completely inverted the wires (which would be totally wrong) I'm not totally sure

Search for "Molex" on google image, compare what you have with what they show

This seems like a good example to compare to :
