AMD FX-4350 or AMD FX-6300 or AMD FX-8120

Which one is best for gaming purposes? Would a higher clock rate be better or would more cores be better? I can get them around the same price.

FX 6300!!! Avoid the 8120 especially.

Well not really contradicting. Out of the 3 you listed, the FX 6300 is by far the best.

However, the 8320 is better than the 6300 so...

That's the first time I've ever heard ANYBODY say to avoid the 6300.

I bet almost everybody will tell you to avoid the 8120.

The FX 41xx, 61xx, and 81xx were the first of a new technology that was ultimately a huge letdown. They were in reality a small step back to what they replaced. AMD quickly revised the tech and fixed some of it's shortcomings with the newer 43xx, 63xx, and 83xx models.

FX 6300 is really good.
FX 8320 for $30 more is better.
FX 8350 for another $30 is even better.
$30 more after that gets you a i5 that's even better.

Yes get a good cooler! That 6300 overclocks well! You will be happy with it.

Go with one of the piledriver AMD CPU's. The more cores, the more potential. Any piledriver from 6300 upwards will be great. Here's a list of them on wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piledriver_(microarchitecture) <-- Those brackets should be included in the link btw.

Definitely get a good cooler too.

The biggest problem with that cooler is that it sounds like a plane and the cooling is awful even without overclocking...

Well the biggest problem with the CM 212 is it's freakin HUGE! Other than that, it's pretty much THE most popular cooler on the market, and while it may be a bit loud, I've very rarely heard somebody complain about it's performance. Go read the reviews yourself to see.

In most apps they will be quite similar. In software that uses more than 6 cores, yea the 8320 would be superior.

Go with an 8350.It offers 8 cores and it has a speed of 4 gHz and can be overclocked.
