Thanks in advance any help will be much appreciated,

Here's what I've done so far...

I enabled the raid in intel's rst and the bios (RAID 10) I then went to install win 7 home premium.

After loading setup files I then install the drivers I copied from my mother board dvd which allow me to see the raid volume (Disk1 Partition1). I get an error message that says Windows cannot be installed on this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure that the disks controller is enabled in the BIOS menu.

I have an ASUS z87 Mother board.

Any help would be appreciated.

Wait a minute, how do you set up the HDD, do you have 4 of them in raid10 + one other HDD? or just 4 of them in raid 10.

If you have 4 in raid 10 you can't just install thw os in one of them. Or do you already have the OS in one of them before set up the raid 10?

Or you can install the os in one of HDD, then connect the rest HDD, start the intel RST to set the raid up.

Hi cin19, thanks for your prompt response! Each drive is 1tb so combined they come to 4tb. Do I still use the disk unlocker in this scenario? Also the raid option has been enabled.

It would be worth noting that this will be a fresh windows 7 install. Am I supposed to have it installed on one of the HDD's 1st? I was under the impression that I could install directly onto the raid volume I had created.

Hi cin19, I just had 4 HDD which were configured in bios to raid 1+0 but this didn't seem to work as once I've done this windows won't install.

I've started going down the Intel Rapid Storage Technology route as you suggested however this creates a new problem where windows update won't work. This I believe is due to the RST drivers (which I installed from my asus DVD). I have updated to the latest RST drivers but still not fixed. So I'll try a full reinstall and download the RST directly from intel and bypass my dvd to see if its any better then try and then get the raid going.

Ok so I finally fixed the issue.
1.I updated the BIOS to the latest version (using usb flash drive I got the latest ver from asus on my other pc)
2.Installed Windows 7 to one of the HDD's
3.Installed LAN/Network driver then updated Windows to the point there were no updates left. (long process that requires many restarts and rescan for updates even if it says "windows is up to date")
4.Installed RST at this point because any earlier and it would bug windows update for some reason.
5.Reboot and create the raid in BIOS including all the HDD's (yes even the one with windows) You can verify your RAID by pressing CTRL + I when prompted after reboot.
6.Install windows to new RAID volume PLEASE NOTE I had the raid drivers for my asus board ready on a usb stick.
So when windows prompted me to select a install partition / drive I used the load drivers option.

How much of this is not necessary I do not know I just went for the don't miss a damn thing option :)

Thanks to cin19 for your responses.
