Hi there! :)  I'm trying to get better performance out of my desktop to run games like World of Warcraft. I thought that upgrading my video card, PSU and RAM would do the trick but my FPS is still low so it must be the processor. I'm gonna get a strong one, no less than a quad core 3.0ghz. But will upgrading the processor be enough or should I buy a new motherboard to be able to put in a new and more powerful processor? And again, thank you very much for the info! ^_^

Here's my desktop information:<<< System Summary >>>

> Mainboard : Acer EM61SM/EM61PM

> Chipset : nVidia GeForce 6100V

> Processor : AMD Athlon X2 4450B @ 2300 MHz

> Physical Memory : 6656 MBDDR2-SDRAM

> Video Card : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 650

> Hard Disk : Hitachi HDS721616PLA SCSI Disk Device (165GB)

> DVD-Rom Drive : ATAPI DVD W DH16W1P

> Network Card : Marvell Semiconductor (Was: Galileo Technology Yukon 88E8056 PCIe Gigabit Ethernet Controller

> Operating System : Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium Home Edition Media Center 6.00.6002 Service Pack 2 (32-bit)

> DirectX : Version 11.00

Remember that not every CPU is compatible with every motherboard, in which case you'd have to get both a new motherboard and CPU.

If your operating system is OEM (tied to the motherboard) then you'd need to factor that in to the cost too.

Also, your current operating system is 32 bit, which is throttling your system a lot, upgrade to 64 bit if possible.

Your CPU is definitely holding you back. You would need new motherboard, CPU, and ram. Probably a new case as well. In all honesty, you need a whole new system. You could reuse the GPU, probably your upgraded PSU, (which one did you get), your dvd drive if it is Sata, and your HDD. I would pick up a bigger HDD for storage though and like JOOK-D mentioned, upgrading to a 64 bit OS. It all depends on your budget. You might find a good deal on a more up to date OEM rig that you could transplant your PSU and GPU into. Building is generally best, but budget dictates all.

I tried upgrading to 32bit just now but it wouldn't let me :(  saying that 32 bit version cannot be upgraded to 64bit.

For more storage I am going to get a new HDD but that's later.

As for getting another rig, I rather not. If I'm going to buy a new rig, I might as well buy that new Alienwware desktop for $699 (http://www.alienware.com/Landings/desktops.aspx) and have peace of mind. Yano what I mean?

As far as budget for upgrading I don't want to go more than $400. I was thinking about getting this motherboard:  fficial&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.53899372,d.dmg,pv.xjs.s.en_US.E_HR746bqA4.O&biw=1920&bih=986&dpr=1&tch=1&ech=1&psi=-IRcUtWHLfOw4AO7toDwCA.1381795080507.5&sa=X&ei=AIZcUuS6NoHB4AOw_IDYAw&ved=0CL4EEPMCMAA" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.google.com/shopping/product/150090033591900...

And this Processor:  fficial&channel=rcs&q=socket+am3%2B+processors&psj=1&bav=on.2,or.r_cp.r_qf.&bvm=bv.53899372,d.dmg,pv.xjs.s.en_US.E_HR746bqA4.O&biw=1920&bih=986&dpr=1&tch=1&ech=1&psi=wIZcUvmTL7a54APyvID4DA.1381795535907.9&sa=X&ei=8YZcUuykLozB4APlpICYAg&ved=0CKAEEOUNMAA" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">https://www.google.com/shopping/product/148106763780482...

those 2 for $350 doesn't seem bad... At least i didn't think so lol. I'm going to need to buy DDR3 though but its better than DDR2 anyway.

What do you guys think?
