'Windows can't access the disk'

The above message has just started on my Iomega 1TB external HDD. I have tried different ports and different computers but still get the same on screen message. I am using Windows 8 and there has not been a problem until Monday 28/10/13. Previous saved data has saved and been viewed.
Any help much appreciated.
