Hello all,

First, I like to tell you that I'm a newbie and have had help from a friend who's been to school for building computers. Any and all help will be appreciated.

I have built a computer with all new components except for the sound card and DVD player. Everything seemed to be installed correctly. It wouldn't turn on, but I used the guide in this forum to troubleshoot. I removed a mem stick and it booted on. I then proceeded to install all the drivers and software for the computer, as well as other things that I would need (like Adobe Reader). The initial boot was yesterday and I turned it on today with no problems to installed anti virus software etc. I also noticed that the USB ports were not working. I had inserted a flash drive and it wasn't being recognized. At that point, I decided to turn off the computer and change the RAM card to the other to see if the other stick was bad. I did that and indeed the computer wouldn't come on. I also moved the USB cord from F_USB1 to F_USB2. I put the other RAM stick in and tried to boot, but now it still will not come on. I did the paper clip test and the PSU seems to be working. What other things should I do? Below is my hardware that I have installed.

MOBO: Gigabyte 78LST-S2P
CPU: AMD FX 4100
PSU: Ultra Professional ATX 650 watt
HDD: Toshiba 2T Sata III
Sound Card: Soundblaster Model SB0790 (it's an older one)

Thanks for any help that is available!

I was just working on the computer after leaving it for a couple of hours. It is now turning on with both RAM sticks in but now I have no video. I did check the pins very closely and all seemed okay to me. I think maybe the PSU is overheating b/c the fan is on the bottom and I only have the case fan and CPU fan. The case is a Cooler Master Elite 431 Plus. I think adding another fan might help but I have no idea which vent to install it in.

Hey,
Try turning all power off, switch the power supply switch to the off position, push the power button to off load any residual power in the capacitors. After that reset your CMOS if you can and/or take the motherboard battery out for >30 seconds.
I really think its the RAM too, but this doesn't require you to go to the store and buy more RAM.
