I upgraded from win 8 to 8.1 yesterday and it functioned several hours. Today, after entering the password on lap-top, computer kept me waiting for hours in vain. Tapping f8 (last known good configuration) does not work either. Is there any solution (advice)?

Hanging and pausing for long periods has been plaguing a few upgrades of Windows 8 to 8.1. The solution I've seen here for most cases involves updating your graphics card drivers, so that would be my strong recommendation. If you are still hanging on regular boot, try safe mode with networking enabled, and you should be able to get to the drivers you need.
