I've formatted and named the drive so I can find it in my computer. Whenever I try to copy files over I get the error message.
Location is not available
E:\whatevervideofile\ refers to a location that is unavailable. It could be on a hard drive on this computer or on a network. Check to make sure that the disk is properly inserted, or that you are connected to the Internet or your network, then try again. If it still cannot be located, the information might have been moved to a different location.
:??:
If I boot straight into the bios it has even gone there. I restart the computer and it's back.
What do I do? First time builder.

Can you see the drive in disk management? Instructions for accessing disk management in Windows 8 -http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/disk-management-windows-8.htm
If it shows up in disk management try taking ownership of the drive.
These are instruction for Windows 7 but may be useful:
"In Disk Management, right click the Partition and choose Properties/Security/Advanced/Owner and add your user account as the Owner of the drive. If that won't happen then try right clicking and Changing the Drive Letter or Paths to a different Drive letter. "

My only other suggestion is to follow popatim's advice and see what happens. If that doesn't help then please report back and let us know the results.

There seems to be a load of new files on the HDD that I didn't put on there.
There are loads that say eula. and then ends in various numbers. globdata configuration file, an install application and configuration, loads of install.res.0000.dll, VC_RED CAB file, VC Red windows installer package, vcredist BMP file.
They were all modified 07/11/2007 and I only built the computer at the beginning of the year.

Evidently some of these are files installed for programs that need Microsoft Visual C++. A more detailed explanation can be found here: http://makingwindowseasy.com/2010/11/29/what-is-this-vc_red-file-on-my-pc/
I was curious too as I had found those same files on another internal drive some time ago.
Does anything happen if you scan for hardware changes after you delete the partition and create a new one?

How do I scan for hardware changes?
