Problems Installing new memory module.

Dear community,

Today I got my new memory module. After installing it and booting up everything seemed fine. But when the system came to loading my windows it got stuck on the initial loading screen. Both on my win7 and my win8.1 preview. I also tried my bootable elementary OS USB with the same result.
So I tried to run memtest but even that froze up after a few seconds. After these failed attempts I removed the new module and tested again; no problems. So i tried swapping them placing the newer one in the first slot and the old one in the second. Yet again with the same result. So I tried to test the new module alone. With this no OS booted but the memtest was able to finish and it didn't find any errors.

The memory I was using up until now was a Corsair XMS3 CMX8G3M2A1333C9. And the new one is a Corsair XMS3 CMX4G3M1A1333C9. I know these are not the exact same modules but they are both 4GB 1333Hz 1.5V memory modules.

My motherboard is an MSI H61M-E33
My processor a I5-2500k
And I don't know if this is relevant but my GPU is a HD Radeon 6950

Please tell me what went wrong and what I have to do to fix it, preferable without me having to spent any more money :)

Thanks.

I tried the new one alone in the second slot (only two slots) and I still got the same results. No OS but working memtest.
One thing I didn't mention earlier though is that sometimes even the bios messages won't load (just got a black screen) after the boot signal. This happened with both sticks installed and with the new stick alone.

Make sure that your system meets the requirements to have the RAM (e.g. motherboard, power). Maybe you accidentally got the wrong type of RAM. When installing the RAM make sure you push in down until you hear a little click. Goodluck mate :)

My mobo should be able to support up to 16GB 1333MHz RAM so there should be no problems there. I have always double checked if the RAM is installed correctly.
