I'm purchasing the HAF XM case which has a front fan with an LED. The case also has a button on the top that controls the LED on/off function. If I were to get more fans with LEDs, how could I configure it so that when I push the LED button on the I/O front panel of the case, ALL the fan LEDs turn on/off? Would they have to be connected to the motherboard rather than through a 3pin/molex connection directly to the psu?

Solution

The motherboard wouldn't control the LED on a fan, a typical 3 pin fan connector on the motherboard consist of power, ground, and data. The data is so you can monitor the fans speed. A 4 pin has power, ground, data, and control so you can control the fan speed. Nothing there that can manage the fan LED.
