I'm upgrading my cpu and am confused on a couple of the procedures necessary for installation. Basically, my computer is a Gateway DX4380G with an aahd3-vc motherboard. I'm upgrading from the a6-5400k APU that came with the system to an Athlon X4 750K. I'm also installing HD7770 graphics. My first question is, how do I know which BIOS update to go with? Or, is it even necessary? I have Windows 8. The Gateway download site provides no information the individual BIOS updates, other than their versions. Customer service has been unhelpful as well. The second question is, when I install the GPU, at what point should I remove the old driver software and install the new driver software? Thanks, John.

This is the problem with upgrading an oem computer . Its possible that the Gateway BIOS will prevent any cpu upgrade . It may only include the set up for that specific processor , or only those that Gateway sell in similar computers .
Toss a coin and ask yourself if you are feeling lucky .

Once you have added the graphics card the onboard will be disabled automatically . Connect the monitor to the graphics card . When you reboot you will have a low resolution output that will let you run the graphics card driver software

Well, I believe that people have been able to install higher end apu's, such as the a10-6800k. I'm thinking that since the Athlon is basically an apu without the iGPU, it should work.

That is definitely a good sign
