Upgraded my computer to 2.5gb ram but the computer only reads I have 512mb. I am using a windows xp computer the motherboard is ASUS P4SD-LA. Even in the bios it says the ram is not even installed. If you need more info just ask.

Try refreshing your Experience Index. Right click on Computer, select Properties, select Experience Index and refresh it :)
You should also make sure that your RAM has been installed properly.

The problem is likely that while the board will use 4 x 512Mb memory for most modules, there are only some 1GB modules that work and none higher capacity that I am aware of that will work. The Crucial 1GB modules are guaranteed by Crucial to work, so you can use their memory finder to get the right set.

Click Start, right click on Computer, select Properties, a window should pop up displaying some system info, find a button that says Experience Index, click on that and then re-run the assessment :)

Does the memory say on it 'non-ECC' or ECC?

Oh ok mate I got you muddled up with another person who was running Windows 7. Sorry about that, it must have been quite frustrating trying to find it. Maybe try fiddling around in your BIOS to see if everything is working properly.

So it is the right type and (technically, according to the specs) right size (though why they reccomend only 4x512 if it says supports 4GB...?). Try RealBeast's suggestion (with just the original 512MB module plugged in) and see what Corsair says.

nat3wall,

just been doing some further research on this. There were various versions of this motherboard - Stingray, Yale, Oxford - and it seems that not all of the versions took 1GB sticks - and there seemed to be some suggestion that someone at HP got it wrong, and the boards will only support 4x512. I know this does not help with the extra RAM you bought, but I thought you should know. Google it and see if you can find anything else. I checked on the Asus site for the board, but got nothing. It was obviously a proprietary board for HP/Compaq.

No problem. Sorry you did not get it solved, but keep trying - post another thread later, as someone else may come up with a solution - there are a LOT of members.

Go HERE for memory that is guaranteed compatible with your board. While they say it will take 4x1GB and will allow you to return them if it does not, I would recommend getting 4 x 512MB -- a significant improvement from only 2 x 256MB, yet highly likely to work properly.
