My basic goal is to connect a laptop to a TV. The details: The laptop does not have an HDMI port, it has a VGA port though. I've read that VGA cables can display 1080p if the source and the TV support it. I've also read that VGA cables are analog signals, not digital signals as with HDMI cables, hence the consideration of a converter. So my question is, what is the better choice? Should I not even bother with the VGA to HDMI Converter since VGA cable can support 1080p? Or will buying the converter benefit me because the signal would be a digital signal? And the fact that I wouldn't have to worry about a cable to transfer audio as well

Other details: The TV can display a 1080p resolution.
If I should buy a converter, will a simple one, like the one in the link below, actually work and change the signal from analog to digital, or just adapt the physical connection?

Well, the good thing about a converter is that it will combine the video and audio into hdmi so you only have 1 cable going to your tv.
As far as quality goes, unless your tv does not accept 1080i\p from vga, you'll likely need a converter to upscale to 1080. I dont have a good recommendation for an converter\upscaler. Might I suggest trying the vga + audio and seeing if you are happy with it, if not pursue a converter. Sorry I cant be more help.

Well, I will try and see which ports from the TV accept 1080p, thanks for your input
