Whats a good CPU Upgrade?

Solution
The absolute best is a i7 4960X. Which costs ca. $1050 and you would need a $200 board to match.

The logical upgrade is a Amd FX 8350 coupled with a Gigabyte 990FXA UD3. Total cost there is $340. Plus a cheap CPU cooler (Hyper 212 Evo) which is a beast for the price for only $30 more.

A cheaper solution is a AMD FX 8320 and a M5A97 R 2.0 for a total of $260, and then add $30 for the 212.

An Intel Option is an i5 4670 (4670K is you plan on Overclocking.) and a ASUS H87M-E for the low price of $320 ($340 for the 4670K)

Keep in mind for these options you will need a dedicated Graphics card such as a R9 270X or a R9 280X or even a GTX 760.

you've got the best cpu on the FM1 socket. so you'll need to replace the motherboard too...

with AMD jumping to an am3+ motherboard like the m5a97 R2.0 and an fx8320/8350 would be a nice step up (for about $250).

If you want to stay with an APU you'll probably want to go to FM2+ motherboard which will open the door to Kaveri which is coming out in the next 2 months. Then you'll sit on your cash till Kaveri comes out.

On intel, getting an i5-4670k on a z87 motherboard would probably run you $350-$400...

and if you really want to go nuts you can get a 6 core i7-4930k on a LGA 2011 motherboard... spend about $800 if you go nuts and get one of the ROG boards.
