Laptop not finding wireless router, but connects via ethernet

I am not able to find my router on wifi on my laptop, whether I'm close or far. Other devices connect fine (ipod/ ps3/ phone etc)but my laptop can't find any wifi sources and has not internet except through an Ethernet cable.
Thanks got any answers!

just to specify is the laptop or router new or have they connected before wireless and just stop connecting? 2nd if you know how to, under the router setup is the wireless set as "discoverable". third is the router and laptop running compatable wifi, ie both 2.4 or 5ghz (most stuff that support 5 supports 2.4 but not all). verfy wifi is enabled and powered up (enabled under hardware manager list, enabled if you have a key for it on ur laptop to power it up and down)
