2gb Gtx 760 superclocked vs 7950 3gb

Which one is better for gaming? The 760 I currently cheaper and superclocked. Also, is it worth getting the7950 anyway as amd's mantle will be released soon, will that be that big of a deal or will it only add 1-2 fps and it's just hyped up for no reason

not sure if it has been said so far but if you are running up to 1080p then both are good but if you have a 2560x1440 or similar the 3gb 7950 would be better. other than that i agree with generally what has been said so far.

The gtx 760 is marginally better than the 7950, and a little more so when overclocked. However, there are still many situations in which the two cards will end up in a draw or the 7950 coming out a little ahead. Personally, I would go with the 760, as it will also produce less noise/heat and use less power.

Also, the fx 8320 is compatible with the gtx 760. Any cpu is compatible with any gpu so long as the motherboard has the appropriate PCI-E slot (and yours will, don't worry).

Hmm, funny, I looked up the benchmarks and in every single one the 7950 got about 15 fps more?

Argh I look like a right you-know-what now. But really? When I looked up benchmarks the 760 was doing awful compared to the 7950! Also could you tell me how amd's mantle would affect this, e.g. Would in about 1 year the 7950 perform better due to games being more fluid

Mantle might be worthwhile if you play a lot of games that use the Frostbite engine, like BF. And can you link some of these benchmarks? Ive seen the 7950 outperform the 760 very few times at AMD oriented games, but never at 15+fps.

Did you click on the link I posted? Near the top of the page, you can also select specific games and certain resolutions/qualities to compare as well. You can also select if you want to compare DX10 vs DX11 vs computer vs etc.

In general, the 760 wins or breaks even and the tom's review that someone else linked also chose the 760 over the 7950.

Apparently I have a hazey memory, anyway it doesn't outperform by 15fps, but in some cases 12 but most around 7-10. Not in a single one did the 7950 come underneath the 760, plus I would plan on overclocking the 7950 to outperform a stock 7970!

Yeah I did, this is why I'm so confused! I will be gaming in 1080p or possibly 720p, anyway, I'll be playing a lot of battlefield and gta. But I'm a huge battlefield fan and console isn't the way to go for me anymore so this is why I'm coming to pc, so which one is future proof, will the 7950 be affected by mantle much? Hich is more durable?

Honestly, Mantle isn't really that big of a deal. Most games will not use it and will instead use DX11.x. You should see how the 7950's are performing in BF4. If the only game you are going to be playing in the future is BF4 or are only going to be playing games based on Frostbite engine 3, then the 7950 might be better in the long run. Note that not all games using Frostbite 3 will use mantle.

As for which card is actually more durable, I believe its a toss up. Most cards are made well these days and the higher the quality of the brand, the better off you'll be (aka EVGA, Asus, Gigabyte, Msi, XFX)
