Ok, here is the system I just recently put together:

GA-B75M-D3H mobo -

i5-3350P CPU -

16 GB generic DDR3 1060 MHz RAM -

EVGA GTX 560

LEPA 500Watt PSU

The mobo and RAM are from my current pre-built system (thus the generic no-name RAM), everything else is new, and I had it up and running today for about 7+ hours, mostly just enough to get all the drivers loaded (old disk was for WIN 7, so had to D/L the WIN 8.1 stuff, clean install of full WIN 8.1 on a new HD) and for my nephew to look for new wallpaper for his desktop (new system is his).

Everything seemed to be going just fine, got the latest drivers for the GTX 560, downloaded Mech Warrior Online, and went in-game.

After running for maybe 2 - 3 minutes, the whole system shut down. No real indications of trouble, however, the FPS was insanely high (I attributed this to the lower resolution it was running in VGA, at 1024 x 768) 120 FPS, where as my much system with better Video only gets about 60 FPS, but on a larger screen at much higher resolution.

The next time I start up, the wireless network adapter won't work, can't even tell it to open, seems WIN 8.1 isn't sure it's compatible now (note that this worked fine for MANY hours 5+ using said adapter with no problems previously), but after switching USB port, and running the Netgear program as admin, it eventually starts working again.

Get back on MWO, get into a match, and same thing happens again, although this time, the system won't even power up, no LED's at the PSU, case, mobo, nothing.

So next I shut everything down, let it rest 5 - 10 minutes, double check all my power cables at the PSU & mobo, nothing feels hot or smells burnt.

Before transplanting the Gigabyte mobo to the new system, I flashed the Bios (there was some question of if F11 was going to be up to date enough for the i5-3350P) and after this, my system (the old one with WIN 7 that the mobo in question now being used in a new for WIN 8.1) would no longer boot up.

I had no issues at all with the new install of the old GA-B75M-B3H mobo into a new case, using it's original RAM & GTX 560 GPU that it has been running the better part of a year with no problems previous.

I'm going to see if the local Fry's I bought the new stuff from will look at the PSU, but I'm fearing it's most likely the old mobo, would it make sense if that mobo were to run an i7-3770k with graphics set to max (no over clocking, just lots of hours of gaming and streaming TV shows) would wear it out?

Thanks!

I d look first OS and drivers. Then memory.

Maybe it did go wrong with Win 7 and 8.1

As 3770k you can buy cheaper Intel xeon 1230V2.

Xeon is like 3770 it is fast HT + 8 treads. No iGPU. (lot cooler than any i5 or i7 with iGPU) Lot cheaper. Best buy if do not OC.

Thanks for the info AxlFone, turns out the PSU was indeed the problem, up-graded to the next price point, happens to be a decent 750W Thermaltake Smart PSU:

Best of all it was in the store, picked it up and got it running now, and just have to see how well everything works using his HD TV as monitor, it has a pretty old 15 - 17" LED monitor, running things at 1024 x 768, and I'm seeing amazing FPS in Mechwarrior Online, 120 FPS average, that's double what I see with my main system, and that is running at "Very High" settings, not bad, can even go higher on Medium, about 140 FPS at that lower res, either way, I am learning that "The best PC for $500" is closer to $700 out the door, but no regrets, I couldn't have touched half of the goodies I built myself, and have the peace of mind knowing what I have in there (no more generic no-name RAM for one!).
