Is it a better idea for a budget if you get the most powerful PSU you will need in long-term?

Like say I'm getting a a 7850 lp or 7870 XT (which i plan to black friday). SHould i just get that and maybe like a 300W psu...or should i get like a 4-500w PSU?

power supply is important but keep in mind i have like sub 150$ lol... I think I can get a good deal on one of those cards for like...sub 100$? I have 4 GB RAM and should probably get that too...but those are cheap ALL THE TIME...GPU and PSU is expensive for me most of the time...

I currently have 240W PSU I THINK

Solution
Anything 500w From Antec, XFX, Corsair (not CX), Seasonic.

Look at the XFX550 unit. This will be a great unit and give you room to grow. VERY high quality.

but i heard somewhere that AMD sets the PSU requirement higher than actual due to some crappy PSU manufacturers lying about what their PSU can manage..

also what kind of PSU would you recommend...I have an "optiplex 3010" lame prebuilt from DELL..The desktop version

hopefully cheap too haha...maybe black friday or something. thx

This is true to an extent. You still need the correct amperage on the 12v+ rail, and nothing below 450w will supply that correctly.
