Hi,

I have been looking for parts to build a home media server with 8 bay raid nas, it is not a game machine, but will do video streaming, transcoding and TV recording. The machine will not be operated in 24 / 7, it will be shutdown during night. The PSU is the most concerning part I'd like your recommendation, I worry about the PSU failing could ruin the entire system, damage the HDDs and lost all files and contents. Also, appreciate your advice whether following parts are good or may cause any problems and issues?

Software RAID: CentOS 6 and ZFS
CPU: AMD FX-8320
Motherboard: Asus SABERTOOTH 990FX
HDD: WD Green EZRX SATA 3 2 TB x 8
RAM: 16 G 1866 G.Skill Ripjaws-X
Case: Chenbro SR11269 (or please recommend)??
PSU: about 400 - 600 W ??

Take your pick. All of these are great units for great prices. They are all made by Seasonic as well. Maybe the Antec isn't Seasonic, but it is still a great PSU.

XFX 550W: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=59615&vpn=P1550SXXB9&manufacture=XFX&promoid=1089

Seasonic S12II 620w http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=52174&vpn=SS%2D620GB&manufacture=Seasonic%20Electronics

Antec HCG 620W: http://us.ncix.com/products/?sku=67325&vpn=HCG%2D620M&manufacture=Antec&promoid=1089

You probably don't need this much power since you don't have a video card listed, but if you ever decide to purchse one you will be good to go on any single gpu available.

PS: I'm pretty surprised by the prices on these units. They are all around a hundred...

PS: I'm pretty surprised by the prices on these units. They are all around a hundred dollars or more usually. I actually recommended the higher watt versions, since they were on sale cheaper than the lower watt units of similar model. lol
