hi my gtx 690 gpu uses around 3.6gb of vram whilst playing multilayer, this seems far too high, my overall fps in the game have dropped also, when looking over open spaces, explosions or fire the fps drop between 40 and 60 fps, other people with my set-up seem to get a consistent 80 whilst recording.

Yes I have experienced this fps drop in all games, I have an i7 3770k @3.5 ghz, 16bg corsair dominator platinum ram and 2tb hard drive, cpu never heats higher then 40c when at 100% load.

I would appreciate your help and thanks in advance :)
PS i am playing in default ultra in 1080p

Sounds to me like a driver problem. I have seen instances where a messed up window or drivers would cause immense RAM and VRAM usage. On 1 instance, PC with I7 2600k, 16 GB RAM and a GTX560 was topping both RAM and VRAM. The reason for this was that the guy upgraded Vista to 7 and used old Vista time driver. After a clean win7 install and putting the newest driver - all went smooth again.

P.S Check for win 7 updates, check for nVidia driver update. Remove any old/unused drivers. Check if there is another program/application running in the background while you game.

You may be using 3.6gb out of your 4gb, but that is not necessarily what you NEED.
It seems that the need for lots of vram is not as severe as you might think.
Read this:

I would look elsewhere for a solution.
BF3 multiplayer in a highly populated server, for instance needs lots of compute power and fast cores.

Do others have your EXACT setup? If not, how do they differ?
