My husband has an old HP Compaq nx6 110. It has been very slow on the start up and loading internet for some time now but he perseveres and after having to restart a few times it eventually works with no problems. However recently it freezes on either the hp start logo or just after on windows start up. On my laptop i did some research and found your page about malware bytes and after several attemps to get his laptop to start in safe mode i have managed to install malwarebytes and am currently running a full scan (been going for nearly four hours now but still scanning not frozen). so far there has been no items detected. I wondered if as no items had been detected if it could be a hardware problem? or any other reasons as to why it wont start. Three days after scanning internet to find why this may be happening with no luck i have finally given in and am asking for help lol.

Agreed with cin19.

You may have to wipe the hard drive and start over with a fresh install of Windows.
Then again it could potentially be a virus.
But the RAM is very small for today's standards so it could also be the issue.
The processor is also slow.
Have you ever cleaned the fans inside with an air duster? If not, it could help since they may be clogged and producing excess heat.

To me, it looks like it may be reaching the end of its days. It could be any number of problems but those above seem most likely. Do you know if you/he has installed any software on it recently? It could be the cause of the problem.
