Hello,
I have recently built a PC and I am looking into live streaming and recording games from my PC and Xbox 360.
At the moment I have got an i3 2120, I am looking to upgrade to an i5 processor.
The processor would need to be compatible with my motherboard, the socket is 1155.
Thank you, Any answers will be much appreciated.

Ah yeah, I skipped over the socket, my bad.

The 3570k is £165.97 @ amazon http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intel-Generation-i5-3570K-3-40GHz-Technology/dp/B007RUZKK6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1383240317&sr=8-1&keywords=3570k

The locked version (3570) is £3 less so you might as well go with the k version.

Here are several options of where to purchase from: http://uk.pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80637i53570k

Currently, you probably won't need to with a 3570k. However when you do need the extra horsepower you might consider it.

It's safe, as long as it's done right. There are many articles on this site and how-to videos on places like YouTube that teach you to do it the right way. You will see a significant performance boost if you choose to do it. If you do so, make sure to get an aftermarket CPU cooler if you don't already have one. But as I said, currently you probably won't need to.

For general use as long as they're (motherboard + cpu) the same socket you will be fine. If you wish to overclock, you may encounter problems as some budget-ier motherboards may not allow you to because of their VRM design which could end up damaging the CPU, but not to worry. You should still be able to get at least a nice 0.5 Ghz overclock though if you wish to, however this shouldn't be a problem as you weren't looking to overclock for the time being anyway. In addition, if you wish to add a second graphics card down the line, your motherboard may not support it. For right now, stock speeds with the i5 3570k will be absolutely fine with your motherboard. Just for reference, could you give us your motherboard model?

Yeah it's a budget board, I wouldn't risk trying to overclock on it. If anything, maybe 0.5 Ghz at the most if you need to.

EDIT: In fact, I'd look into upgrading to a more capable board if possible before doing anything too heavy. How long have you had it for? Any issue? From the reviews I've read it's not the most reliable and might not be worth risking an expensive CPU on.

Well this build is new and I was on a budget. The board is so far good I suppose, apart from the dvi slot doesn't work, but on the Graphics Card it does.
So overall, I could get the i5 3570k and I wont be able to overclock it, until I get a new board!?

They are server CPU's, but they are essentially an i7 without quick sync and IGP. The exception is the 1245 v3 that does have that. They will game and livestream just the same as an i7. I used to game on an X3210 Kenstfield quad back in the core two days. It was less expensive than a Q6600 back then.
