Hi! I'm putting in a EVGA 760 (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DHW4HXY/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) in my rig and my secondary card (http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GTX650Ti-SuperClocked-Dual-Link-Graphics/dp/B00BZB0I3W/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1383242121&sr=1-2&keywords=evga+650+ti) is bumping down a slot.

My question is: Can I use the 650 ti as a dedicated Physx card just fine?
My PSU is: 650W (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438005)
Am I ok on Wattage? Thanks!

Solution

Yes, you should be fine. You may need to use the 6-pin connector to give the card full power, but it won't use it full power anyway, as it will only be crunching numbers, and not displaying to an output. So the 650ti won't be running at full pelt.

The 650ti will only draw 110w max, and the 760 only draws 170w max. Providing you don't have some insane OC on your CPU, you should be grand.

It will be a nice little setup.

I'm running two SSD's and one HHD, so SSD performance is not an issue. Thanks though!

Hmm...define "insane" XD! My Intel i5-3570k @ 3.40 stock is overclocked to 4.40Ghz in the BIOS. Corsair's H60 cools it quite nicely. Is that too much power draw from the PSU to potentially bottleneck the GPU's? o_O.

well, the 3570k is a 77 w part, but with OC that could have increased.
Even still, lets say it was 100w , with the wattage above, your talking about 380w, and with the rest of your system maybe another 100w max. So your still within the limits at 480w But of course PSU degrade over time, and it might not supply its full rating. Of course you won't be pushing max usage that often, so you should be just fine.
