Looking at the R9 280X's, it looks like there's quite a bit of difference in price when it comes to manufacturers. I ask you, what is the difference manufacturer to manufacturer?

Im looking into the ASUS ROG R9 280X - ~350$, but i look over and the MSI's, same model, are ~300$. Will i note any performance, consumption, or lifespan differences between the two?

Thank you in advance!

Ok so let's get started. The difference between manufactures is coolers/boards. So lets say Asus may get the chip from AMD but they can use a reference board or they can design there own at a higher cost. Which MSI models are you looking at? This asus model http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/R9_280X_Direct_Cu_II_TOP/25.html is louder than this msi model http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/R9_280X_Gaming/25.html . Although the Asus model overclocks slightly better. 1180 vs 1145 (very small) The Asus model also comes out of the box 20 mhz higher.(core clock) 1070mhz vs 1050mhz So it will perform slightly better. http://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/ASUS/R9_280X_Direct_Cu_II_TOP/1.html...

They have their own cooling systems, some cards have more OC than others and maybe some quality difference. The performance will be around the same, not that much difference but power consumption, noise and temperature will be different.

I don't know of any ROG asus models i have seen the matrix model though. The matrix model is very very nice. It got to 1230 mhz (core) which is what the r9 280x asus matrix model should (about) get to. Does this answer your question and is there anything else you need to know?

A test in tomshardware.de showed that not all r9 270x cards can use their boost function and I dont know if there is any test for the 280x. From the tested cards MSI, HIS and Gigabyte models worked perfectly with their boosts.

Thank you very much for your response Seth. This answered my question perfectly. Just to clarify, I was referring to the ASUS Matrix edition, I stated ROG, but this was inaccurate. Again, thank you!
