Hey guys. I built my pc about 2 months back. It runs like a bull on steroids and I love it. Except my psu. My psu is a corsair 750w tx. And it has a severe case of coil whine. Its awful and I cant put up with it. Luckily I am doing an rma with Corsair. They are giving me a brand new HX series. I figure Ill sell it for $130 or less. I need a 750w-850w thats dead silent (meaning no coil whine, and little fan noise) TIA

The Corsair RM series is supposed to be extremely quiet, including for coil whine. You could take a look at those.

XFX are quality PSUs.

My personal recommendation is Corsair, XFX and Seasonic.

Im doing an rma with my current psu the oil whines. Corsair is kind enough to replace with a HX series. I have heard a lot of complaints that these are noisy to. Would it be best to sell the hx when I get it and just buy the rm series?

I'd try the replacement. Coil whine isn't a sure thing, try it out first. If after you get it it still makes noise, talk to them and see if they can trade it for a RM of same price.

Hm, I see. I dont know yet, I feel like getting the rm right away is the safer route but on the other hand it will take a lot longer.

Im not sure if they are willing to give me an rm series though. They might just replace with another hx series. I have 2 choices here.

1) Take the HX series I'm getting, sell it and get something else (xfx pro or the RM corsair series)

2) Take the HX series and test it out.

I guess either way I'm getting a psu that wont coil whine it just depends on how fast im going to get it.

It will be worth the wait when you get the quiet unit.

I don't think you have anything to lose by testing the HX unit, truth be told. If it works fine, it'll be unnecessary to sell it and get a new one. And either way, would you even be able to sell it for 100% of what it costs?

It cost about $150. i plan on selling it for $130. Everyone I know or I have heard from who has an hx have been telling me that the HX series has a design defect with the fan controller. The fan will, randomly spin up at 100% for a few minutes and slow down. I have no idea why but If mine does have this issue I dont really want to send it back to get a new one that will probably have the same issue.

I have been meaning to ask. Does xfx have good cs? I know probably not as good as Corsair but are they half way decent? If I do get an xfx unit to replace the hx ill be getting. ( Have not decided yet) and it has a problem I just want to know it will be taken care of. Although amazon has a 30 day guarantee to refund it or to replace it.

Alright guys, sorry to resurrect the thread. I guess all its up to now is if Im getting this: http://www.amazon.com/XFX-Edition-Modular-Certified-P17...

OR

http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Series-80PLUS-Gold-Certif...

I just need to find out which one is the better of the two. I mean the seam VERY alike accept the fact that the corsair is $30 bucks more after the rebate from xfx.
If anyone else who has either one of these units would like to put some info on one of the two please do so.

I'd go with the Corsair RM one, personally. But that's just me. Blackbird will surely disagree and say XFX.

It's up to you, both are great brands, both PSUs are high quality. I doubt ANY PSU from the RM series has coil whine since they're built exactly to eliminate sounds (including the whine) as much as possible.

I guess it just depends on what I can sell the hx for. Im looking to sell it for $130 but who knows

A little update on the whole thing: Corsair has stated that they have received the defective unit. (woo hoo) The only problem is that they received it a week and a half ago. It has been about 7 or so business days since then, and nothing has happened. I called CS, chat msged them, updated my ticket, etc...and everyone I talked to has "informed" the shipping department of my rma. Corsair informed me that once they received the item they would ship the new one out to me 2-3 business days later. I guess all I can do is wait and see what happens. :/
