Hey guys.
So im looking for some memory for my first build. But im not sure what to get. My MoBo specs say:
DDR3 2133(OC)/1866/1600/1333/1066

I found a set at 2133 that I really like. but I was just wondering if its safe to put those in seeing as theres an (OC) next to that speed wich I think means Over Clocked right? Or do I just need to get additional fans to keep them cool. Thanks in advance. Also can you guys please suggest some good brands for RAM...

I would say go with 1866 since your MB does support it. Honestly 1600 would be fine, but then that would feel like a waste of a good MB that can do better.

And yes OC does mean overclocked. Although ram these days is rarely the bottleneck in performance once you hit 1600 if your concerned about $$$.

As for good ram brands, gskill has pretty low failure rates but most common big name brands are safe bets.
1600mhz is pretty much the defacto standard for most gaming machines. if you want an upgrade i would say to use 1866 instead if you like. no real need for 2133.

unless you have hardware which could take advantage of it i would say you do not need 2133. i'm not sure why your mobo lists 2133(oc). if you have a low end mobo you really dont need to get 2133 so can avoid it. if you have a high end mobo it can support high end high draw ram so it should work fine.

i really like using mushkin ram. great stuff. another good brand is corsair.

The OC means you have to overclock your mb to get the RAM to that speed .

But there is more to know about RAM . Particularly voltage . All current hardware made by AMD and intel is specified to run on 1.5 V or lower RAM . Dont be tempted to buy higher voltage DIMMS .

And even if you buy faster RAM the timings/latency are usually higher and performance is seldom any better . 1600 MHz or 1866 MHz are the sweet spot for performance and value
