Overheating, GPU and the Witcher 2(Electric Boogaloo)

Hi all, I recently got a gtx 670(2GB, ref. Zotac model) and when I started up TW2, I alt-tabbed to check my temps. I was a little surprised to see temps of 90-100C during play, and I was wondering if I kept on playing the game, will there be long term problems with my GPU?

Other than that, I see no issues, the game runs at a nice 40-60fps at ultra settings(no ubersampling or V-sync though(lack of either doesnt bother me in the slightest)).

This seems like a cooling issue with either your case, or the card itself, do you have proper ventilation on your case? If not consider adding fans (front / back at least)

If you do have some and the ventilation is ok then I'd say the card is probably defective in some way

http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-670/specifications

Temperature should never be that high the card is supposed to be rated for 95C MAX, anything above 75 would be problematic IMO

Also make sure you have the lastest drivers in case it makes a difference, also what's your idle temperature like?

Edit : Also check this out

In that review they mention there was insufficient pressure between the GPU and the cooler, and have a fix you could try, but if the card is still under warranty returning it might be a better option.

It's been out for a while so I'd assume that issue would have been fixed by now, but maybe it's not...

Approx 45C-10C(45C on random, or during certain, quasi-intensive tasks).

As for ventilation, one thing has been bothering me: I recently completed my rig, and when I was connecting my new psu up to the necessary ports, I didnt connect the front case fan to anything(its there by default: CM Elite 430) because the cable is too bloody short.

This seemed strange, as before it was working, but it seems like I forgot to connect it up (I also dont know where I should connect it to) when I was finishing my rig.

So that could be it, but otherwise its okay, and I reach such temps regardless if I open up the side(during the game).

And I am aware that such temps are bad, but I dont notice any visual problems in game.

EDIT: It's the reference-esque model, as in:

I know that the stock fan is crap, but it was in the perfect price range for me.(performance to match)

Idle temperatures seem ok, the only other thing I can think of is maybe a bad temperature reading, if zotac supplied an application that can take the temperature readings use that to check it out, since 3rd party apps may be off...

But otherwise I'd say there's probably something wrong with the card (as I said early bad contact between the cooler and the gpu is the most likely cause)

Just to make sure it's not an application specific issue (the witcher) you could try to stress test the card with MSI Afterburner or something similar, you'll probaly end up with the same kind of results but it's worth a shot
