Hi guys,

It has been alittle while I've come to Tom's for help but it is great I can. I recently was diagnosing an issue with my cousins computer and wanted him to run Memtest86 to check his RAM. I made him a bootable on a usb drive I had and attempted to boot off of it and run it on my system to make sure it was good to go before sending him home with it.

Upon booting the drive Memtest launched normally and about 5-10 seconds in without any errors it rebooted my system. I immediately reset my bios to save default and put the DRAM voltage up to 1.65v (recommended by manufacturer). Tried again, same thing, reboot.

I have had 0 issues with this pc and I built and stress tested it myself last year. Any thoughts on my next course of action? I enabled USB legacy and have the latest Memtest version as well.

Thanks,
Chris

I have a very similar problem, if not identical. I have an ASUS M5A99FX PRO 2.0, and a couple sticks of 8 GB Crucial Ballistix Sport running at 1600mhz. I RMA'd a pair and then a single stick before because of issues with Memtest properly testing them, but I originally tested these sticks successfully on a BIOSTAR A870U3 mobo; they passed at least one pass, and I've run Windows 8, 8.1, etc, Minecraft, Prime95, Crysis 1 and 2, BF3 and BF4, Handbrake, etc, with exactly ZERO problems. My computer performs excellently and doesn't crash, freeze, or reboot, but when I bring up any version of Memtest (I've tried 4.3.3 and 4.3.5, and I think I tried the new UEFI beta version 5.0), it simply crashes, occasionally after 30 seconds, sometimes...

His PC is fine, we tested the RAM and it failed so it is getting RMA'd.

It is mine having the issue and it is 4 sticks, 16GB in total of Kingston HyperX Genesis. My system is linked in bot right corner.

I've tried moving around the memory and testing different sticks, and so far I've only been able to run Memtest for more than a minute with a single stick of either the Ballistix or my old PNY 2 GB ones.

My motherboard is open box, and my memory is probably nearly out of RMA period now, so solutions fast would really be appreciated. I don't want a $100 junk mobo or a $50 junk stick of RAM.

I hope you guys can help me here; I don't really know what to think.

Thanks!

Those programs aren't memory diagnostics, and it's not unusual for computers to run perfectly except during a memory test, but some of the newest versions of Memtest86 and Memtest86+ have flaws with their simultaneous multicore testing.

Single core mode overnight went through two passes successfully. I'll probably switch the slots again and do it again for a couple hours just to make sure, but I'm pretty sure the problem was just the multi-core bug in Memtest.

Thanks!
