I build my current desktop about 5 years ago, and I'm thinking about overhauling it.

the mobo, mem, cpu are all out of date ddr2 stuff so I know I will be needing those parts and would like to add a SSD.

the parts Im planning on reusing are my power supply, case, dvd-rw, HDD.

I plan on it being primarily a gaming build, mostly plat World of tanks now but will expand once i know it will be able to handle other games like BF4,or anything that I might have missed the last year or so, I do no video/graphics editing what so ever.

the few things I'm wondering is would my 5 year old parts last 5 more years?
dvd drive - LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner with LightScribe Black SATA Model iHAS220-06 LightScribe Support

power supply - OCZ GameXStream OCZ700GXSSLI 700W ATX12V SLI Certified CrossFire Ready Active PFC Power Supply

Case - Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case with Upgraded USB 3.0

HDD - SAMSUNG Spinpoint F1 HD103UJ 1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

If they all will be G2G for my overhaul here are the components I'm Thinking of using.

I'm open to any suggestions on any of these items, the only thing I can think of off the top of my head is, would these last me for 5 years?
would the gen 3 intel/z77 boards be just as good for the drop in price?
Should I upgrade from vista 64 to win 7?

Just want to thank people ahead of time for drudging through my first post here, I've read alot of posts here and there and look forward to getting any help from the good people from these forums.

Windows 7 home premium 64 bit can support only 16gb. More than that, you need pro or ultimate.
windows 8 is 128gb.
No game will use more than 2-3gb by itself, so 8gb is plenty .
But, ram is cheap, and with more ram, windows will keep more in ram available for instant reuse.
Intel cpu's have a good memory controller, you lose little with 1600 speed ram.

As to savings, i5-4430 would game very well. Since you can't overclock, a cheaper B85 based motherboard would do. A 4670K is as good as it gets if you will keep the build for a long time.
If you live near a microcenter, they will sell you a 4670K for $200.

I think you can save without the bundle. Use a M-ATX sized motherboard. Here is a Z87 for $105...
I think you could reuse those parts.
Your new components are good also.
Definitely upgrade to windows 7(don't like 8)
Buy the windows 7 upgrade kit. It costs about the same as oem, but you will get a retail license that can be transferred in the future to a new motherboard.

For a balanced pc, spend more on the graphics card than the cpu. I might think a GTX770 would be more appropriate.

120gb can fill up fast, go to 240gb if you can. Save a bit with the EVO version, it will perform for you just as well as the pro.

That RAM is extremely expensive. Games do not need 2x8gb, stick with 2x4gb. Additionally, grab 1600mhz of RAM because 2133mhz will perform the same in games as 1600mhz: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231428

With the money saved from the ram, you can upgrade to a GTX 770: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127741

As stated, downgrade to the 840 EVO. i would stick with the 120gb as it will still be a good amount of room if you use it wisely: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820147247

With the money saved from the HDD, you can add a cpu cooler to overclock: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

Do you need a os?
If you currently have a retail or upgrade version of windows 7, you can transfer it to a new pc(aka motherboard)
If you have a oem copy, ms says you can't, but they seem to be lenient about that. They mainly want to know that you are not a pirate and are using it on no other pc.

Solution

You probably have a oem license.
Regardless, windows 7 is better and is a good upgrade.
Buy a windows 7 upgrade version. It costs about the same as oem, but it is considered as retail. That means you get ms support, and can freely transfer it to a different pc in the future.
Yes, you can do a clean install with it.
